1516L - Determination of an Ionization Constant

In this experiment you will use the conductivity probe (see below) attached to the MicroLab analysis box in order to measure the conductance of different acid solutions. You will then find the conductance of an unknown acid solution and work to calculate the ionization constant for the unknown acid.

Additional details for this experiment, including the use of the conductance probe, are found in the handout here.

The instructions for preparing the solutions are found in the Catalyst lab manual.

The Experiment Setup

Try to be organized during your work in order to avoid confusion. The basic experiment setup looks like this:

When the experiment is complete, dispose of any waste, return the conductance probe to the front bench and clean up the balance room and your work area as needed.
